Helicopter to Whakaari (White) Island and Mount Tarawera (3.5 hour)
Experience New Zealand’s most prominent volcanic feature’s. Departing from the Lodge’s helipad, fly north along a volcanic fault Line. White Island is situated forty-eight kilometres from the east coast of the North Island and is New Zealand’s only active marine Volcano. Landing on the island’s crater floor, your pilot will guide you past the steaming fumaroles and boiling mud pools to look out over a steaming sulphurous crater lake. The Helicopter then flies on to Mount Tarawera where you will land on the high exposed 1111m summit. The 1886 volcanic eruption and Maori legends are described whilst you take in the spectacular views of the geothermal surroundings. This is a 3.5 hour unforgettable experience. Normal hours of operation for all excursions are from 9am-5pm.
